Stage 1 of this project was to construct a new foundation and floor, then to shift the WW2 blister hangar from its previous location on the MOTAT site to allow for the building of a new aviation display hall.
Stage 2 was the construction of a 55m x 50m display building to house MOTAT’S unique aviation collection. The laminated wooden portal frames which span 42m and the 28m x 9m doors allow for the 42 aircraft (including one Sky Hawk) to be moved easily within the complex and even become airborne (albeit on wires). There is also room for functions to be held amongst the aircraft.
INTERESTING EXTRA
The concrete floor of the new display hall had to be laid in one go. That meant a 2.00am start for the concrete crew and 104 concrete trucks taking their turn to pour.
